Fragment of an Anglo-Saxon lead disc brooch. Less than half survives. The drawing shows decoration of three rings of small pellets, around a concentric ridge, then a gap between these borders and the central motif. The central motif starts with a further ring of small pellets, around a cross motif made up of two strands of smaller, more closely spaced pellets. One arm of the cross survives and there appears to be infill between the arms of more pellets including perhaps a single larger one in the centre of the best-surviving quarter.

Cast lead object, apparently with a thin section, its surface covered with fine ribs or grooves (as this object can now only be described from the drawing some features are open to doubt). It was described as the 'Lower half of a lead figurine, most probably a toy. Skirt very pleated'. An examination of works on lead toys (Forsyth and Egan 2005) and pilgrim badges (Spencer 1998) failed to find any parallels and it is possible that it represents the remains of one of the so called 'bird feeders' (these are too narrow and deep to have allowed a bird to feed or drink). A post Medieval da…

Vesica shaped lead object with faceted sides, one face plain the bears traces of raised decoration. This object was described as the blank for a seal matrix but some caution must be exercised, in addition to the lack of an inscription, a lug and fleur-de-lys on the back it should be noted that this object is smaller than any of the other lead matrices recorded by the Scheme, most having a length of around 30mm, not the 25.2mm seen here.

Disc shaped lead object with a crudely cast rib across one face, other face plain. At one side are traces of what might be a casting gate. Function unknown. MF notes the mass might qualify this as a weight representing one ora/ore, or six [underweight] sub-units of 4.07gms, as used for silver bullion transactions in the Viking Age.
