Record ID: KENT2319
Object type: VESSEL
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Medway
Workflow stage: Published
A complete ovoid jar with a short upright rim which has a distinctly 'Belgic' appearance. The fabric is pale orange-buff, very fine and similar to pale Terra Rubra. It is possibly an oxidised Upchurch type. The fabric and manufacture (it is wheel-thrown), assuming an Upchurch source, suggest a post-conquest date. The form is unlikely to outlive the first century; possibly pre-Flavian.
