Complete rounded upper stone of a beehive quern. The hopper is a straight-sided funnel leading to a long narrow feed pipe. There is a handle slot low down on the side of the stone. The quern is carved from millstone grit and is well finished. Beehive querns are generally acknowledged as being a native form of rotary quern with a wide date range and a wide variety of forms. Dating is difficult but they seem to have originated in the 2nd century BC (Welfare, A.T., 1985, 'The milling stones' in Bidwell, P.T., The Roman Fort at Vindolanda at Chesterholm, Northumberland, Hist. Cast copper alloy mount in the form of a human face with slit mouth, drilled eyes and a flattened nose. The face is in relief set on a backplate with an extant rivet to one side. The backplate forms a bi-furcating headgear with hollow panels that follow the outline of the headgear that probably once contained enamel. The back is hollow. It is likely that this is a vessel mount similar to those on the buckets found at the Late Iron Age cemetery at Aylesford, Kent.

Fragment of bow and catchplate of a possible Langton Down type brooch. The bow is thin, straight sided and rounded at its end. The front surface is ribbed. The catchplate has two perforations. Unusually, the brooch has been repaired in antiquity in that the worn catchplate has had a plate riveted to it with two copper rivets. It has been cut to the shape of the original catchplate and turned over at its edge to catch the pin.

Cast copper alloy Roman vessel mount or escutcheon in the form of a bull's or ox's head. It is in very worn condition and is incomplete. Remains of flange on the top of the head would have supported a loop. The horns are present. Faint moulding on the front of the face suggests features including eyes and snout. The back is hollow and is partially filled with an unidentified whitish material. At the centre is a copper alloy(?) rivet or fixing stud.

Late Iron Age or Early Roman cast copper alloy terret, probably dating from 1st century AD. The terret is small and is of the ‘knobbed’ type, Spratling (1972) Type IX. The attachment bar is flat and has a central point at its base, forming a tang defined by curving sides (length of bar - 12.8-15.4mm, depth of bar - 14.5mm). On each side of the bar is an oval stop (14-15 x 10.5-11mm), which appear to be pointed at the tops. The stops are decorated along the sides with transverse mouldings contained within a narrow border and are angled at approximately 15 degrees from the vertical. …

Late Iron Age or Early Roman cast copper alloy terret, probably dating from 1st century AD. The terret is large and is of the ‘knobbed’ type, Spratling (1972) Type IX. The attachment bar is V-shaped, with two central points forming tangs defined by curving sides. This bar arrangement is slightly unusual and may be seen as a precursor to the Roman style skirt on the base of terrets. The bar is 15.6-23.7mm long and is 21.5mm deep. On each side of the bar is a pointed oval stop (34-35 x 19-20mm) decorated with a groove running along its side. The stops are angled at approximately 45 d…
