A small handle and fragments of the body of a Roman greyware vessel.
Description: The handle is sub-square in cross-section and formed into a semi-circular curve, each end attached to the body of the vessel. There are small fragments of the vessel body remaining. The handle is formed around a 10mm circular hole which has smooth sides and has been applied by pushing a former through the wet clay during manufacture. Description: The lead shot is roughly spherical but has multiple ridges and uneven indentations covering most of its surface.

Discussion: The damage appears to be teeth marks and Harding, 2012 suggests that they are caused by marks left after chewing the ball, possibly by animals post-deposition (Harding 2012).

Description: The object is a thin plate, roughly oval in outline, widening in the centre and narrowing at each end. The object is broken across both ends. One face is decorated with three lines of rocker-arm zigzags, one along the centre line and two around the perimeter. The back is undecorated.

An incomplete, cast copper-alloy, medieval single loop buckle with integral plate c. AD 1250-1400.
Description: Only the plate remains and is broken across the lower part of the buckle frame. The plate is trapezoidal in shape with two rivet holes, one at the rounded terminal and one towards the centre of the plate. Both copper-alloy rivets remain in-situ. A further hole, just before the remains of the frame, would have held the pin. The pin is missing.

A cast lead-alloy spindle whorl dating to the medieval period.
Description: The whorl is unevenly cast and cylindrical with flat sides and a central moulded aperture of diameter 10.65mm. One face is slightly domed and the opposite face is concave with a moulded pattern of five, straight, raised lines, overlapping at their ends to create a pentagon. The lead-alloy has started to decay and delaminate and there are areas of lost material.

A cast copper-alloy purse frame fragment, dating from c. 1450 - 1550, probably Williams Class C.
Description: The fragment is part of the frame of a purse where it would have attached to the purse bar. It is formed from a long thin rod of copper-alloy with one end bent at 90 degrees to the main rod and flattened and widened before piercing to create the suspension loop. The loop is now broken. Description: The coin is very worn and has some post-depositional damage with approximately 1/3 of the flan missing. The coin is very darkly coloured and detail is difficult to see, on the obverse in particular, but the bust has distinctive hollow eyes and mouth, typical of these coins.

A medieval silver penny of Edward II. The coin is a mule of class 11b1/11a2, Durham mint.
Description: The coin is very worn and has some striking weakness in some areas. There are both rounded-backed and pointed-backed C's and E's, a crosier at the end of one arm of the reverse cross (at 12 o'clock) and a CIVI/TAS/DVN/ELM reverse legend.
Measurements: Diameter 18.16mm Weight 1.06g.
Discussion: The different styles of C and E indicate that this is a mule of a class 11b1 obverse with an 11a2 reverse.

Description: The whetstone is formed from a very fine-grained, sedimentary, mica-rich stone. It is sub-trapezoidal in plan with tapering sides and is trapezoidal in cross section although there is significant post-depositional damage that has changed its profile. Both ends are broken, probably in antiquity. Two sides are flat and smooth. The other sides are damaged.

A copper-alloy thimble of early post-medieval date.
Description: The thimble has a tapered body, pointed crown and manually-punched, rectangular pits. The pits on both the body and the crown of the thimble are in a right-hand spiral pattern. The pits on the body begin about one quarter of the way up from the base. Between the pits and the base there is a circumferential groove above a decorated band. The decoration on the band is a pattern of repeated, facing half-annulets.

A medieval, sheet copper-alloy probable buckle plate.
Description: The plate consists of two rectangular sheets of copper-alloy held together by two, in-situ, copper-alloy, circular rivets. There is a 1mm gap between the sheets. Both sides of the plate are incised with two, parallel longitudinal lines. One end of the plate is intact but the other end, where it was attached to the buckle, is broken across the rivet hole. A biconical, cast lead spindle whorl dating to the medieval period.
Description: The whorl has been badly cast and the decoration is faint but both sides are decorated with a circumferential zigzag line creating triangular cells. Alternate cells are decorated with a single moulded pellet in the upper cells and three moulded pellets in the lower ones. There is a central hole 10.2mm in diameter. The edge of the whorl has a flattened area at one point with an elongated hole. This is a casting flaw rather than damage.

Description: The strap-end comprises two sub-rectangular, slightly tapering plates of sheet copper-alloy with a straight edge at the wider attachment end and a rounded terminal at the opposite, narrower end. There are the remains of a leather strap in-situ between the plates at the attachment end. The plates are held in place with two copper-alloy rivets, one at each end, along the centre line.

A cast copper-alloy, hooked strap fitting of post-medieval date.
Description: The fitting consists of a sub-triangular plate with the wider top edge having a central V-shaped notch to create a fishtail shape. The plate then narrows into an integral, backwards-facing loop at the bottom. The plate is drilled for two rivets, one above the other but offset from the centre. An iron rivet remains in-situ in the upper hole, the rivet is missing from the lower hole. The back of the fitting is slightly concave.
