A two-piece, sheet copper-alloy medieval strap end. Description: The strap end is octagonal in shape and consists of two sheet copper-alloy plates. The front plate has bent sides and fits snugly against the flat back plate creating a hollow interior. A medieval, cast copper-alloy strap end. Description: The strap end is constructed from two cast copper-alloy plates, soldered together at the closed end. Both pieces have snapped off just above where the plates thin to allow the strap to fit between them, and the open end, probably with a seperate spacer, is missing. The main part of the strap end is sub-rectangular in plan, but at the closed end it has a narrowed neck and then a decorative collared terminal which is shaped like a fleur-de-lis or trefoil. The strap end has a solid, sub-spherical terminal from which extends an integrally-cast rectangular bar which then splits into two sub-rectangular plates to hold the strap. These plates are joined at the attachment end by an in-situ copper alloy rivet with flattened, circular heads. The terminal has a diameter varying between 14.9mm and 16.1mm, while the bar and attachment plates are c.12mm long and a maximum of 5.94mm wide and 4.32mm thick. The upper and lower plates are sub-trapezoidal in plan, both terminating in three points in a zigzag pattern with a drilled rivet hole and intact copper-alloy rivet just behind the central point. The opposite end is broken across with a section missing. Sandwiched between the two plates is a surviving piece of the original leather strap. Strap ends with similar two-piece construction can be seen on pages 142-143 of Egan and Pritchard (2002).

The strap end is cast in one piece and comprises a shield-shaped attachment plate with a cross- or sword-shaped terminal emanating from the pointed apex of the shield-shaped plate. Beside this hole is a smaller, drilled rivet hole with a copper-alloy rivet in-situ. The whole object has been folded, almost in half, across its mid-point.

The opposite end is broken and part of the object has been lost. The upper surface has an integrally-moulded design of curves, possibly a floral pattern, within a linear border. A Medieval, copper-alloy, zoomorphic strap-end. It has a cast front plate and a sheet back plate. The strap-end has been broken across the two plates and much of the attachment end has been lost. The remainder of the plates narrow towards the closed end before flaring out slightly into a zoomorphic knop. The head of the animal is outlined on the upper plate only by incised lines creating ears, eyes, nose and mouth.
