A worn buckle plate, made from a single sheet of copper alloy folded over the buckle bar, so that there is a central slot to accomodate the pin and a cut-out frame recess on each side. Two rivet holes (rivets now missing) show where the plate was joined to the strap. The front of the plate is decorated with a raised animal, possibly a stag or lion, facing towards the buckle frame. There are traces of gilding around. Buckle plates of this type excavated in London (Egan and Pritchard 1991, p113 nos 520-530) have been dated 1350-1400.

The worn, upper bow and part of the shoulder of a copper alloy headstud brooch. Though the wings and spring are missing, a semicircular raised, moulding where the hook rested is present. Also the socket holes, at the back of the brooch, that held the spring can be seen. Below the moulded headstud, at the top of the bow, is a row of rectangular panels of red, probably alternating with yellow, enamel. The foot and catchplate are missing.

The foot and catch plate of a copper alloy Roman brooch. The flat part of the catchplate has three decorative cut out holes in a line, roughly parallel with the bow of the brooch. The diagnostic upper part of the brooch is missing so only broad dating of 1st to 2nd century is possible.

A small translucent light green annular glass bead. Undecorated beads similar to this example found during excavations in Colchester (Crummy 1983 p32, fig 33, no549-553) have been loosly dated from 1st to 4th centuries AD.

A copper alloy hooked tag The hook has a sub-circular open work plate with a rectangular loop at the top. The plate has foliate decoration with small leaves visible at the base where it tapers to a sharp pointed hook which curls over on itself at the back. The back of the tag is flat and undecorated. The hooked tag (or dress hook) measures 24.9mm in length, 14.23mm in width and 2.1mm in thickness. Similar examples appear in Geoff Egan’s ‘Material Culture in London in an age of transition’ p.44, Fig 25.

A copper ally nummus of Magnentius or Decentius (the former is most common). The reverse is SALVS DD NN AVG ET CAES type showing teh Chi-Rho and alpha-omega symbols (the first Christian symbols on coinage). A copper alloy mount, probably a belt stiffner and decoration. The surface corrosion has slightly obscured the detail of the object. The upper section has an openwork foliate pattern around the two rivets, one of which is missing. The mid section has transverse moulding as the mount narrows and the lower, rounded section has more foliate patterns ending in a small knop. Another river goes through this section

A copper alloy fragment of frame of the semi-circular,lid-flap of a hanging purse. This edge stiffening strip is decorated with an incised lattice pattern that probably held niello or silver inlay. 'U shaped' in section the strip has two attachment holes. A very similar strip was found in excavations in Norwich [Margeson 1993, 43] in a context dated to the 17th century.

A complete two-way copper alloy harness link consisting of a central boss connected to an arm at each side which terminates in a circular loop. Each loop has three oval knops evenly set on the outer edge. The loops are joined to the central boss by 12mm long arms which are D shaped in section. The central boss is oval and has a has a domed protrusion which corresponds with a hollow on the reverse. A sinilar strap distributor was as found as part of a group of harness fittings in Kvalsta in Sweden (Williams 1997)
