There extensive traces of tinning. The pin is D-shaped in section with a flat back and narrows gradually and consistantly from the loop over the strap bar to a sharp point. The upper part of an incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch. The way this object flares out into a flatish oval from which projects the stub of perforated lug to anchor the spring suggests that this may be part of a trumpet headed type. Whether the iron corrosion around the comes from an iron spring of just from burial close to an iron object is uncertain.
