Post medieval cast copper-alloy double loop buckle with trapezoid loops, complete with pin. The loops widen away from the strap bar and are triangular in section with a flat back and angled inner and outer sides. The strap bar is narrowed and recessed with lobed knops at either end. There extensive traces of tinning. The pin is D-shaped in section with a flat back and narrows gradually and consistantly from the loop over the strap bar to a sharp point. The pin has corroded to a much redder colour than the frame and is possibly a higher copper composition. Whitehead (2003:82) illust…

An incomplete medieval copper-alloy buckle plate, probably late 12th to 13th century (c. AD 1150 - c. AD 1300). The frame end of the plate is broadly rectangular. The plate would then have divided into three bars or prongs extending towards the attachment end outlining two arched openwork shapes; one such prong survives complete while the other two have broken off entirely. The prong begins at the attachment end with rectangular tabs with adjacent semicircular open area, before narrowing with a distinct step in in width from both sides. The narrower bar terminates in a loop which has s…

The upper part of an incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch. The way this object flares out into a flatish oval from which projects the stub of perforated lug to anchor the spring suggests that this may be part of a trumpet headed type. Whether the iron corrosion around the comes from an iron spring of just from burial close to an iron object is uncertain.
