An uninscribed Iron Age gold quarter stater of the Southern Region / Regini, dating to the period c.60-20 BC, Wonersh Left type. Obverse: Two plain crescents at centre of crossed wreaths, star or sun motifs in two of the quadrants. Reverse: Horse left, with pelletal moon above and floral sun below. This is probably an early variant of the Wonersh Left quarter staters (J. Sills pers. comm), cf. ABC no. 617.

An Iron Age gold quarter stater of the Southern Region / Belgae, dating to the period c.60-20 BC, 'Fishtailed Cross' type. Obverse: Fish tailed cross design, triple horse tails in each quarter. Reverse: Triple-tailed horse left with wheel above and beaded annulet with central pellet below. Cf. ABC, p. 58, no. 788; BMC no. 544 (ex Chris Rudd List 15, CCI 92.1605). Silver hammered penny, late Anglo-Saxon of Æthelwulf of Wessex (839-858). The flan is damaged in two places, with some loss. Obverse: cross with clockwise P shaped arms with pellet in centre and pellet in each quarter, within a beaded border. +EÐELVV[ ]REX. Reverse: cross pattee with wedge in each angle and the legend MANN[...]M. This is a previously unknown type for Athelwulf of Wessex by the Rochester moneyer Manning, probably minted in the late 840s. The closest comparison previously published is Naismith (2011) type R30.3.

Reverse: Stylised annulate animal (griffin/horse?) right with ring above, uncertain motifs (wavy lines?) in front. This coin is an unlisted, new type that stylistically probably belongs to the half unit issues of the Hampshire region (J. Sills, pers. comm.).

RIC V, pt 2, p. 37, cf. no. 183; Gloucester Hoard (CHRB XIII), cf. no. 1149. This coin appears to be have the officina mark B (although it is just possible it is A). RIC only records officina A and the Gloucester Hoard officina Δ. Officina B is recorded for Rogiet hoard no. 600, but with a different obverse legend and type.

A medieval English jetton of apparently previously unknown type. One side shows the Short Cross reverse which was current in the period c1180-c1247. The other side is a cross fleury which Mitchener suggests belongs to the late 13th to early 14th century. A date in the second half of the 13th century seems reasonable for this jetton.

This coin is unpublished, but the British Museum has a similar piece with the legend LEG XX AVG, Boar left, but with the mintmark - // SNC (British Museum 1920 0618 3A). The overall style of the coins is similar, showing that the MC and SNC mintmark were contemporaneous. This coin has been included in Sam Moorhead's Corpus for RIC.
