An incomplete copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating to c.AD 75-175. The brooch falls within Bayley and Butcher (2004) Trumpet Goup C, Hull T154A - further devolved. The head is usually based on a flat plate. Waist-moulding may lobed acanthus or petalled or with plain or leaf-shaped multiple mouldings. See p.161, fig.130. The brooch is exceptionally large and is almost complete, only the pin is missing. The brooch consists of a large circular head plate (D: 31.8mm), atop of which is a small loop. A Roman copper alloy Bone Disc Type nail cleaner, 42,5mm in length. The object has a flattened bifurcated tip, 4.1mm wide, at the end of a shaft with circular cross section of 2.7mm diameter. The upper part of the shaft is decorated with incised cross-hatched lines. The terminal has a flattened globular bone bead of 8.7mm diameter and 4mm thick which has been drilled to take the end of the shaft. Circa late first to second century AD, but significant numbers are known from 3rd to 4th-century contexts. As Eckardt and Crummy (2008, 130-31, fig. 72).
