A fragment of a cast, copper alloy artefact, purpose currently unknown, possibly of Roman date, 43-400AD. It consists of two pieces joined with a rivet. One piece is circular and has a rim at right angles to the upper surface such that it resembles a flat lid with vertical sides. Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy fragment of a possible mount probably dating from the medieval period. The fragment has a curved edge suggesting it is from a circular object. The other edges are broken. One face is decorated with a curved border line filled with possible floral motifs in the centre. Two petal or leaf like motifs are visible. They appear to be executed in niello. There is no evidence of attachment but with only a fragment surviving, this is not surprising. The decoration seems to suggest a medieval date.
