A set of Medieval copper alloy tweezers, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1450. The tweezers are formed of a single sub-rectangular strip of copper alloy, folded in half and then subsequently twisted along half of its length. The arms expand towards the terminals, which are folded inwards with an obtuse angle. The tweezers have been bent slightly along their length. Length 54.5mm; width 5.5mm; thickness 0.5mm; weight 1.48g. cf. Egan & Pritchard (1991: 381) no. 1774.

A Medieval copper alloy open thimble or sewing ring, probably dating to c. AD 1400-1600. The thimble consists a broad ring of copper alloy with slightly sloping sides and which is open at the apex. A series of hand drilled circular pits are arranged irregularly in four concentric circles around the external edge. The thimble appears to have been cast, rather than formed of a soldered sheet. The thimble has been squashed. Height 9.6mm; Width 26.5mm; thickness 1.3mm; weight 3.69g. Holmes (1988) suggests that open thimbles do not appear in Britain much before 1450, illustrating a …
