Post medieval gold finger-ring of mid to late 18th century date Description The gold band is near-circular but has been recently reshaped and is of D-shaped section. There is a linear join across the band and there is no decoration on the exterior surface of the band. The circular stone is most probably the lower section of a quern, dating it is however, a tad difficult as this type of rotary quern, introduced to Britain by the Romans remained in common use throughout the ages, certainly up to and beyond the late medieval. Typically, a thick round stationary lower stone in which there is normally a socket for a spindle, sat on the ground and a rotating upper stone sat over the lower stone.
