A probably Early Medieval lead spindle whorl dating from AD 700 - 1100. It is conical in form, with angled sides and flat surfaces , probably of Walton Rogers form A2. The whorl is undecorated and has a light grey patina. Measurements are; diameter 19.2mm, thickness 8.4mm and weight 13.20g. The central hole is 7.6mm diameter. Form A2 whorls are dated by Walton Rogers to AD 700 - 1100. A complete lead spindle whorl from the Medieval period (AD1200-1500). The whorl is made up of a central bi-conical body with hole measuring 10.7mm. It is decorated on both faces with a series of raised lines, which form triangular shapes and pellets. The object has a grey patina, and the decoration is heavily worn. A spindle whorl made from a piece of Roman Samian ware pottery. It is slightly concave. There is no decoration, and the edges are chipped all of the way round the outside on the underside, and in a few discreet areas on the surface. The whorl may post date the Roman period as the central hole is not at the smallest end of the spectrum for a Roman date.
