A lead spindle whorl of uncertain date. The object is circular in plan and is conical. The central perforation has a diameter of 9mm at the base but is damaged and slightly distorted at the top. The object is slightly damaged and is patinated overall. The object measures 26mm in diameter, is 12mm thick and weighs 40.5g.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1100-1500

A cast lead alloy spindle whorl dating from the Roman to the Post-Medieval period, (AD43-1800). The object is circular in plan and biconical with a large circular perforation with an internal diameter of 9.36mm. One face is decorated with a series of moulded lines. The opposite face decorated with eight radiating lines. Between the lines are irregular raised pellets in groups of 2, 3, 4 and 5. There is a raised border surrounding the internal perforation and the outer edge of the object. The object has a mid brown patina.

The object is circular in plan and biconical with a central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 6.99mm. Each face is decorated with moulded lines in the form of a star. Three raised pellets decorate the void between each point of the star while a single pellet decorates the object within each point of the star. There is a raised border surrounding the internal perforation and the outer edge of the object. The object has a mid brown patina.

The lower face is undecorated however has two irregular indentations which may be casting flaws. The object has a mid-white patina.

A cast lead alloy spindle whorl dating from the Roman to the Post-Medieval period, (AD43-1800). The object is circular in plan and oval in cross-section. It has a large regular central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 8.25mm. One face is decorated with a multi-pointed starburst pattern which is worn. Between the points of the star occasional pellets are visible. The opposite face is decorated with a series of worn linear mouldings radiating outwards from the perforation. The object has a mid-white patina.

A complete stone spindle whorl or weight dating from c. AD43 - 1100. The object is circular in plan and sub-rectangular in cross section. In the centre of the object is a circular perforation with an internal diameter of 10mm. Each face is covered with striations and scratches but does not appear to be decorated. One edge of the object is thinner due to wear measuring 4mm thick. The opposite edge measures 5.5mm thick.
Dimensions: 35mm in diameter, 5.5mm thick, 12.7g
