Lead probable spindle whorl. Cast cylindrical whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 11.6mm, Walton Rogers form B. A possibly moulded design has been partially carried over to one flat side only, unless these irregularities represent shrinkage in an open mould, and lipping appears on the opposite side. Patinated, and probably lightly distorted. The mass points to a primary function plying cord, if not as a flywheel for some other mechanical purpose. The size of spindle hole could admit an Anglo-Scandinavian date, but the possible decoration on one side might rather point to …

A complete lead discoidal spindle whorl of Early Medieval to Medieval date (AD 700-1100).
The spindle whorl is circular in plan and has a sub-rectangular cross section. It fits into the Walton Rogers classification form B. The central hole is circular with an internal diameter of 9.5mm. No decoration is present on either side.
The whorl is cream in colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

The object is plano-convex in shape with a domed side, rounded edges and a flat base with a central perforation measuring 10mm in diameter. It fits into the Walton Rogers classification Form A1. No decoration is present on either side.
The whorl is brown in colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

Lead spindle whorl. Cast cylindrical whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 11.2mm, either miscast or more probably part-melted, Walton Rogers form B. Eight wide radial cuts or grooves appear on one side of the whorl: this texture or decoration has recently been noted as a most unusual feature of another whorl reported recently from the immediate vicinity. The spindle hole size could admit an Anglo-Scandinavian date. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 1000-1100

A complete lead Spindle Whorl of Medieval date (AD 1100-1500). The object is biconical with a central moulded aperture of diameter 9.77mm. Both sides bear a moulded decoration. On one side this takes the form of a cross Pommée with lettering reading: W Crown V (pellet within) Crown V (pellet within and flanking). The opposing side is decorated with cross Pommée H•N•?•quatrefoil/A (chevron barred).
