Incomplete Late Iron Age or Roman chalk Spindle Whorl, with a damaged edge in two places. It weighs 100.62g and measures 79.52mm in diameter. It is max.21.25mm in thickness, towards one edge and min.14.50mm at the opposite (broken) edge. The central perforation is 17.82x21.03mm in the middle, widening to 21.57x24.96mm and 24.06x26.11mm on either surface.

Roman or medieval stone spindle whorl, 42mm in diameter and 19mm thick. The object is in fair condition with a grey patina and weighs 42.88grams. The whorl has a central hole circular hole, c.10mm in diameter. The rock is fine grained and has calcite/quartz small rounded inclusions.

Ground and polished stone spindle whorl of probable late Prehistoric- later medieval date (-2000 BC – 1500 AD). The spindle whorl is sub-circular in plan, its diameter measures 38mm and is 11.5mm thick. There is a circular drilled hole through the whorl and this is set slightly off centre: it is also egg-timer shaped caused by drilling from both faces. The diameter of the hole measures 7.9mm. A broken and incomplete stone spindle whorl. A carved sub-circular, bi-conical piece of fine grained sedimentary rock. One face is slightly more domed than the other. There is an off-centre drilled hole for attachment to a spindle. The hole has been drilled out from both sides, producing an hour-glass profile. Carved (chipped and ground) siltstone spindle whorl of unknown date probably Roman to Post-Medieval date (100 – 1600 AD). The spindle whorl is sub-circular in plan; it measures 26.1mm length, 25.8mm width and is 7.4mm thick. There is a circular hole drilled through the whorl and this is set off centre. The diameter of the hole measures 6.4mm. The whorl weighs 7.38 grams. The siltstone is a mid-brown grey colour. Both sides of the spindle whorl are undecorated. Slate spindle whorl, circular in plan and flat in profile, with a circular perforation, measuring about 6.8 mm in diameter. Romano-British, judging from the majority of material that it was found with. Quinnell (2004) illustrates a similar example from Trethurgy on page 143, Fig.68, No.30 which is dated to the later stages of the site, c.AD 450-550. Carlyon (1987) illustrates a similar example from Carvossa on page 137, Fig.14, No.25, which is dated from the 1st to the 4th century AD.

A worn circular stone object, probably a spindle whorl. The stone is a very light grey fine-grained type of uncertain category. The whorl is globular in form and rectangular (with rounded corners) in section with a flat base and top. The artefact is seemingly undecorated. It measures 26.5mm in diameter with a large spindle hole with a diameter of 9.8mm. The spindle whorl is 17.5mm in thickness and weighs 13.5g. Possible cut stone spindlewhorl. A sub circular, thick disc of stone with a small central hole. The hole is straight sided and 5mm in diameter. It has been roughly cut from a piece of hard red sandstone, most likely from the Quantock Hills in Somerset (identification provided by Dennis Parsons, Keeper of Natural History, Somerset County Museums Service). There are several plough scrapes on the surface of the object.
