A cast lead spindle whorl of Walton Rogers form B1 dating from the Medieval period, about AD 850 - 1200. The whorl has two flat faces and a large central hole of 12.26mm diameter. It is not decorated but there are some diagonal grooves or scratches on the outer faces. The  diameter is 24.03mm, the height is 13.6mm, the weight is 41.57g,   Walton Rogers form B1 whorls are known from AD 700 to about AD 1200 but the large hole suggests a date from AD 850 onwards.

Walton Rogers suggests that Form B1 whorls were used from from Iron Age to Medieval periods, but the size of the central hole makes an Iron Age or Roman date more likely.

A cast lead alloy medieval decorated spindle whorl, c. AD 1100 to AD 1500.  The spindle whorl is circular and biconical in form, with a central hole 9.8mm diameter. Both sides are decorated with a series of four raised capital ‘A’s equally spaced around the whorl with the apex of the ‘A’ at the rim. There is then a series of three pellets between them. Both faces have the same design.   One side has more wear than the other and the surface has large areas of white lead oxide with grey lead sections. Diameter 27.5mm, height 14.7mm, weight 45.5g.

There is a central circular perforation of internal diameter 10.30mm. None of the faces are decorated and it has a light grey overall patina. It is of Walton Rogers form C2. The internal diameter of the perforation suggests a date from AD 850 onwards. Walton Rogers suggests that Form C whorls date from AD 1100 onwards. The perforation is off centre and the whorl has a milky grey patina. Diameter 31.8mm; hole diameter 6.0mm; thickness 7.4mm and weight 35.1g. Form A1 whorls are known from AD 500 -1000, but the small size of the central hole makes an early to middle Saxon date more likely. Other examples of form A1 include SWYOR-B34628.

Spindle whorls of this type are illustrated in Walton Rogers, 2007, Cloth and Clothing in early Anglo-Saxon England, page 25. Form B2 whorls are thought to date from AD 700 - 1200, but the large central hole suggests a date in the late Saxon period onwards.

A cast lead spindle whorl of Walton Rogers form B1, dating from the Early Medieval or Medieval periods, about AD 850 - 1200. It is flat and discoid in form with vertical sides and a central, circular perforation of internal diameter 9.58mm. It is 26.72mm in overall diameter and 9.25mm thick. It weighs 30.81g. Spindle whorls of this type are illustrated in Walton Rogers, 2007, Cloth and Clothing in early Anglo-Saxon England, page 25. A cast lead spindle whorl, of Walton Rogers form A1 or A2, probably dating from the Early Medieval period, about AD 500 - 850. It is conical in form with a flat base, and has a central, circular perforation of internal diameter 6.24mm. It is 23.58mm in diameter and 11.54mm high. It weighs 23.73g. Spindle whorls of this type are illustrated in Walton Rogers, 2007, Cloth and Clothing in early Anglo-Saxon England, page 25, and are through to date from AD 500 - 1100. The size of the central perforation makes an early to mid Saxon date most likely.

A cast lead spindle whorl dating from the late Medieval to Post Medieval period,about AD 1450 - 1550. It is bi-convex in shape and of Walton Rogers form C2. Both faces are decorated in moulded relief. One face has a series of zigzag lines interspersed with raised dots. The lines form a four pointed star. The other face is less clear but also seems to be decrated with ribs and pellets. A cast lead spindle whorl dating from the late Mediaeval period to early Post Mediaeval period, about AD 1150-1500. It is bi-conical and of Walton Rogers form C2. Both surfaces are moulded and decorated with irregularly spaced raised lines radiating from the perforation. There is a raised pellet present within some of the resulting cells. The whorl is 29.61mm in diameter, 11.84mm thick and weighs 47.52g. The central perforation is 9.49mm diameter.
