Both faces are decorated with a series of very worn radiating lines and zigzags. The whorl has a grey/brown patina and has a diameter of 25.6mm, is 11.4mm thick and weighs 32.0g. The central hole is 9.56mm diameter.
Though C2 whorls are known from the Iron Age onwards, the decoration suggests a date from AD 1200 onwards (Standley, 2016).

A sub-circular spindle whorl dating from the Early Medieval period, AD 500 - 850. The whorl is of Walton Rogers form A1, with one flat face and one convex face. It is not decorated. Lead spindle whorl. Cast sub-conical whorl with a larger upper and a smaller lower flat face, Walton Rogers form A2, with a central moulded aperture of diameter 5.4mm which, like the whorl itself, has been distorted by crushing; patinated overall. The condition, form and spindle hole size could all admit a Roman or Early Medieval date; the former seems more likely given the dating of many accompanying finds. A lead alloy spindle whorl. In section it comprises one shallow, truncated cone forming the top, with a rounded frame and a circular pedestal underneath. The top is decorated with raised four circular shapes, proud of the surface. There is also a raised line around the circumference and another around the central hole. These raised 'turrets' are seen on early medieval weights and gaming pieces, such as WAW-5760D1, which are ascribed to Viking period activity. The rear is more worn and the decoration is therefore more difficult to discern: the inner raised ped…

Lead spindle whorl. Cast biconical whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 10.9mm, Moulded decoration appears bilaterally: one side has fine moulded lines defining a star, with about three more strongly moulded pellets in each of the compartments defined by the lines. Here the edge of the central hole is provided with a plain rim. A prominent circumferential rim also marks the meeting of the two halves. Patinated.…

A badly damaged cast lead object with a hole through it, which is possibly a spindle whorl of Walton Rogers form A1, dating from AD 850 - 1000. The whorl would have been conical, with a central hole of 9.5mm diameter. It has suffered damage and is incomplete. The object is 27.8mm long, 20.7mm wide, 16.8mm thick and weighs 29.60g. If the object is not a spindle whorl, it could be a fixing or adhesive for securing a metal object into a stone one, like an early rawl plug.

A lead spindle whorl of possible Iron Age to Roman date, about 800 BC - AD 410. It is of Walton Rogers Form C1 which has no flat faces and curved sides. This example is sub-spherical. Alberti notes that globular (in which she includes spherical) whorls are uncommon. The central hole has a diameter of 6.2mm. This is consistent with Walton Roger's suggested range of 4-8mm for Iron Age and Roman whorls. The object has a well developed brown patina. It is 15.4mm tall, 18.7mm diameter and 26.12g.
