A complete lead Spindle Whorl of Medieval date (AD 1100-1500). The object is biconical with a central moulded aperture of diameter 9.77mm. Both sides bear a moulded decoration. On one side this takes the form of a cross Pommée with lettering reading: W Crown V (pellet within) Crown V (pellet within and flanking). The opposing side is decorated with cross Pommée H•N•?•quatrefoil/A (chevron barred). Both surfaces have faint traces of moulded decoration though the object is worn obscuring the exact design. The metal has a mid-brown patina and is worn. A lead Early Medieval spindle whorl, dating from about AD 500 - 850. It is of Walton Rogers form A1. The spindle whorl is sub-conical in form, with one flat face and one face with one rounded and one angled side.  The measurements are; diameter 26.0mm, thickness 13.8mm, and weight 45.29g.  The central hole has a diameter of 8.5mm. Form A1 whorls are dated by Walton Rogers to AD 500 - 1000. Those with a central perforation of 6-9mm are more likely to be early to mid Saxon, AD 500 - 850.

A cast lead spindle whorl of Walton Rogers form B1 dating from the Early Medieval to medieval period, about AD 850 - 1200. The whorl has two flat faces and a large central aperture of 11.6mm. The measurements are; diameter 27.6mm, thickness 7.3mm, and weight 31.62g. The object is undecorated and has a light grey patina. Similar examples can the found on the database see SWYOR-B413FF. Walton Rogers dates form B1 from AD 700 in York to 1200. A large central perforation makes a date from AD 850 onwards more likely.

A small, cast lead spindle whorl of Walton Rogers formB1, probably dating from the Early Medieval period, about AD 700 - 850. It is discoid in form, flat at the base, and with vertical sides rising to a flat upper surface. There are no markings. There is a central, circular perforation with an internal diameter of  6.4mm. A complete lead spindle whorl of uncertain date. It is plano-convex in shape with a convex upper surface and a flat base. It is sub circular in shape with a central circular hole of internal diameter 9.2mm. The weight is 23.40mm in diameter and is 11.8mm thick. It weighs 34.68g. It has a light gray/white patina and is decorated with low bosses.  Objects such as these were used for a long period of time for a variety of functions with little change in form.
