A complete lead spindle whorl of medieval to post-medieval date (1000-1800). The object is circular in plan, with a hole running through its middle. In section, the spindle whorl is D-shaped. Both faces are undecorated but heavily worn, the obverse is convex and the reverse is concave. The object has no decoration and has developed a cream patina. It is hard to date spindle whorls as their form has remained unchanged since the Roman period. Dimensions: Diameter 24.7mm, Thickness 8.5mm, Weight 23.77g.

A complete lead bi-convex decorated spindle whorl of Medieval to early post-Medieval date (AD 1100-1500). The spindle whorl is circular in shape, and lentoid in cross section. The central hole is sub-circular and the internal diameter measures 10.1mm. The upper and lower faces are decorated with irregular ribs in light relief, creating various sized segements. A lead alloy, miscast and therefore unfinished, spindle whorl. One, conical side of the spindle whorl is alomost complete, with a design of concentric circles of dots, and the central hole is moulded cleanly in to a depth. The other side is flat, with a vague suggestion of a line and dot pattern in it. There is no central hole apparent on this side. It may have been destined to have been of Walton-Rogers form C.
