A plano-convex, cast, lead spindle whorl of Walton Rogers form A1, probably dating from the Roman period, about AD 43 - 410. It has one flat face and one gently domed face. There is a central, circular perforation of internal diameter 5.3mm. It is undecorated and has a light cream patina. It is 26.11mm in diameter and 6.54mm thick. It weighs 18.82g. Around these, centred on the middle circle, are six smaller circles, evenly spaced around the whorl. At the centre of these, on the central circle, are raised dots, and there are pairs of raised dots above and below the centre line between the smaller circles. There are also dots where the small circles meet the inner and outer larger circles. The inside of the inner circle to the middle of the whorl is plain. …

A lead alloy spindle whorl or weight. It is a truncated cone in shape, with smooth, slightly bowed in sides. The central hole is 7mm in diameter, and this may indicate that it is an early artefact. The hole curves out on the underside of the body and so gives the illusion of being a bigger diameter on the base, although it isn't.  It has an even white patina. It is paralleled on the database by LIN-7BE15A and LANCUM-51DBD8, amongst others, which are dated to AD 700-1000 Dimensions: 18mm diameter and 12mm high, the central hole is 7mm diameter and it weighs 13.13g
