A lead Early Medieval spindle whorl, dating from about AD 850 - 1000. It is of Walton Rogers form A1. The spindle whorl is sub-conical in form, with one flat face and one face with one rounded face.  The whorl has a cream patina and is undecorated. Measurements are; diameter 26.9mm, thickness 6.9mm and weight 24.76g.  The central hole has a diameter of 11.1mm. Form A1 whorls are dated by Walton Rogers to AD 500 - 1000. Those with a central perforation of 11mm are more likely to be from the late Anglo Saxon period.

A complete lead spindle whorl of possibly early Medieval to Medieval date (AD 800-1100). The object is plano-convex in shape with a domed side, rounded edges and a flat base with a central perforation measuring 9mm in diameter. It fits into the Walton Rogers classification Form A1. No decoration is present on either side.  The whorl is cream in colour, with an even surface patina. A complete lead alloy spindle whorl of medieval date (AD 1100-1500). Description: The whorl is biconical in shape with a central circular perforation. The obverse is decorated with eight visible transverse lines radiating from the centre with one pellet in between each, eight pellets total. Lead spindle whorl. Cast cylindrical whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 11.2mm, either miscast or more probably part-melted, Walton Rogers form B. Eight wide radial cuts or grooves appear on one side of the whorl: this texture or decoration has recently been noted as a most unusual feature of another whorl reported recently from the immediate vicinity.
