Cast lead spindle whorl from the Medieval period. It is slightly darker than usual, suggesting some tin is in the metal. It is bi-conical in shape and has a central circular perforation. It is decorated on both sides with cast decoration in the usual star and dot pattern. A dot in each point of the star and also on the outside of the star. This type of object has been used for centuries but this pattern would suggest a Medieval date.

There is no obvious sign of decoration. The edges of the whorl are slightly rounded at the corners, but in section it is rectangular. Due to the lack of significant features it is difficult to date the whorl, however, plain examples similar to this are known from Roman and early Medieval contexts whereas decorated examples are generally believed to be Medieval.
