Part of a lead alloy spindle whorl with an unusual design. It is a shallow biconical whorl, with a moulded border around the circumference and inner diameter. On one side is a knot design formed of intertwined lines. On the other side is a design made up of various symbols, including groups of three dots, radiating lines and what may be two intertwined letter F's, and, unusually, a heart motif. A complete lead-alloy spindle whorl of medieval to Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1100 - 1600. Walton Rogers Form C. The spindle whorl is bi-conical with a central perforation running through it. It is undecorated. The metal has a light white patina and is in fair condition. The spindle whorl is 28.2mm in diameter, 10.9mm thick and weighs 46.2g.
