Both faces present a raised decoration that consists of a seven-petalled flower with a pellet in each petal. The object has a dark cream patina with soil remaining within the raised lines. Dimensions: Diameter: 28.0mm, Thickness: 10.3mm, Weight: 30.19gm. The central hole has diameter 8.8mm. Decorated lead-alloy spindle whorls or weights can be difficult to date as they are …

A spindle whorl or possible weight. It is made of lead alloy, and is of a circular shape, one side of which is slightly domed. The central hole is off-centre, of diameter 9mm. There is no sign of decoration, the whole has an even light grey patina. Lack of diagnostic shape or decoration makes attributing a date difficult, and a wide range is specified here Dimensions: It is 34mm in diameter, the central hole is 9mm diameter, and it is 8mm deep. It weighs 48.39g

A well preserved lead alloy spindle whorl. It is a shallow bi conical shape. One side is flatter in section than the other, and this face is decorated with two rings of carefully distributed raised dots. The design on the other face, which is steeper in section, is more worn but consists of crossing lines forming interlocked triangles, within a border around the edge and centre. The shape suggests Walton Rogers Type C, used from AD 1100-1600 Dimensions: 31mm diameter and 9mm deep, with a central hole 9mm in diameter Finders ref 1953

A spindle whorl or possible weight of lead alloy. It has two flat faces, one smaller in diameter than the other, and the sides are curved. The central hole is small at 5m diameter, this may suggest either an early date for this or that is was used as a weight. As earlier whorls are not commonly made form lead alloy, this is probably a weight. Dimensions: 23mm diameter, 9mm deep and the hole is 5mm in diameter. It weights 28.93g

A post medieval crudely cast lead alloy object, probably intended for use as a loom weight or spindle whorl, dating to c. AD 1450 - 1600. The object broadly resembles Walton Rodgers form A1 or A2, being sub-circular in plan with one flat face and tapering curved sides. This creates an uneven cone, in plan it is assymetrical due to sprue on one side. The central perforation is countersunk on both faces, with a resulting constriction in diameter; 9 mm narrowing to 6 mm. There are traces of moulded decoration in the form of lines and chevrons on the…

A lead alloy, miscast and therefore unfinished, spindle whorl. One, conical side of the spindle whorl is alomost complete, with a design of concentric circles of dots, and the central hole is moulded cleanly in to a depth. The other side is flat, with a vague suggestion of a line and dot pattern in it. There is no central hole apparent on this side. It may have been destined to have been of Walton-Rogers form C. Off the side of this is a lump of lead from a faulty casting. It is interesting to see a piece as work in progress on a local site. Dimensions (approximate): 28mm diameter and…
