A complete but heavily abraded and corroded cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl of Medieval to Post Medieval date (1150 - 1650 AD), most probably Medieval (AD12300 -1600). The spindle whorl was originally broadly circular in plan and bi-convex in cross section. A central hole is present which has a diameter of approximately 11mm in diameter, Both faces of the whorl are decorated - although one face is poorly preserved. The overall design seems to consist of radiating lines which intersect a circumferential ring creating a crude spiderweb patten. A series of cast pellets are present …
