A complete lead spindle whorl or weight dating to the Medieval to post Medieval period (c.AD 1200-1700). The object is circular with flat faces a rounded edge and sub-rectangular cross section. In the centre is a circular perforation measuring 9.8mm in diameter encircled by a plain, raised border. The object is decorated on one surface with 12 raised lines leading from the centre to the circumference. The object  has a powdery white / cream patina. A cast lead spindle whorl from the late medieval period(c. 1200-1500). Th object is bi-conical with irregular central aperture with signs of wear and chipping around the aperture. Both faces are decorated, with one featuring curved radial ribs in a starburst design, the other has irregular zigzag ribs with singular pellets in the triangular cells. A worn, lead-alloy spindle whorl of probable Medieval date, AD 1100-1500. The spindle whorl is very abraded and pitted but bears faint traces of pellet decoration. The central aperture measures 10.24mm, suggesting a Medieval date. It measures 27.23mm in diameter, is 7.56mm in width and weighs 24.8g. Standley (2016, 278-9) suggests a date range for high/late medieval spindle whorls of this form from the 13th century to before the end of the 15th century, based on their presence in metalwork assemblages from the River Wear and the deserted settlement of Meols in Merseyside. …

An incomplete, lead alloy, bi-convex, decorated spindle whorl of Medieval date, AD1100 - 1450. The spindle whorl is sub circular in plan, and lentoid in cross section.
