A Medieval to Post Medieval lead spindle whorl dating from AD1450-1600. The spindle whorl is a cast biconvex, with a central moulded aperture of diameter 10.5mm. Radial lines and a circumferential rib divide each side into a neat reticulate arrangement of sub-rectangular compartments, with a thick rim separating the two sides. As is often the case, the decoration is markedly crisper on one side. The mass may suggest the primary function of this whorl was to spin cord.
Dimensions: diameter: 28.36mm; thickness: 9.26mm; weight: 56.68g.
