Cast lead-alloy spindle whorl, dating from the medieval period (AD1200-1500). The whorl is made up of a central biconical body with moulded decoration. This is very worn but may originally have been made up of a zig-zag line. Around the centre of the whorl is a projecting ring also with moulded decoration that appears to be in the form of a "rope" or "twisted cord" design. This projecting ring is 3.4mm thick.
