A complete lead / lead alloy spindle whorl probably dating to the early medieval to medieval period (c.AD 600-1500). The object is biconical in shape with steeped edges and a large central perforation measuring 11.2mm in diameter. Both faces are decorated with linear designs, and these appear to be runic script. Although, this may a pseudo-runic characters and may imitate a script rather than be genuine runes. The object has a grey patina. A lead alloy spindle whorl of medieval date. The object is circular in plan and biconical with a central circular perforation. The perforation has an internal diameter of 9mm. Each face is decorated with letters and pellets. On one face the letters read (AXVYOXY), while on the opposite face they read (AOXXYATVAIV). This possible lettering appears to have no pattern and is indecipherable. The 'letters' may form a possible runic or psudo-runic script. A lead alloy spindle whorl of Early Medieval to Medieval date. The object is circular in plan and conical with a central circular perforation. The perforation has an internal diameter of 10mm on the flatter face which tapers to 9mm in diameter at the conical face. Each face is worn with moulded lettering. One face reads (AOWɅo.OYV) while the opposite face reads (YOW.). The object has a mid-white patina and is worn. A cast lead alloy spindle whorl dating from the Early Medieval to the Medieval period, (AD1066-1500). The object is circular in plan and biconical with a large central circular perforation. The internal perforation measures 9.5mm in diameter. One face of the object is decorated with a series of moulded lines which radiate outwards from the perforation. Between each line are two moulded pellets. The opposite face is decorated with runic script. It is possible that the script is pseudo-runic, and merely intended to imitate a script, as not all letters seem to be genuine Anglo-Saxo…
