A lead alloy spinlde whorl or weight. It is a truncated cone with a flat base, the central hole being only 7mm diameter, which may suggest an early Walton-Rogers Type A1. It is very small for a whorl and may equally have been a weight. Dimensions: It is 18mm diameter at the base and 6mm deep, the central hole is 7mm and it weighs 8.13g

A lead alloy spindle whorl or weight. It is a truncated cone in shape, with smooth, slightly bowed in sides. The central hole is 7mm in diameter, and this may indicate that it is an early artefact. The hole curves out on the underside of the body and so gives the illusion of being a bigger diameter on the base, although it isn't.  It has an even white patina. It is paralleled on the database by LIN-7BE15A and LANCUM-51DBD8, amongst others, which are dated to AD 700-1000 Dimensions: 18mm diameter and 12mm high, the central hole is 7mm diameter and it weighs 13.13g

A lead alloy spindle whorl. or weight. It is flat on one face and domed on the other. There is no pattering apparent but is it quite worn and damaged. It has a dark colour, suggesting a low level of lead in the alloy. Wear on the corners of the inside hole would suggest that is has been suspended and has probably been used as a weight. Dimensions: 27mm diameter, 14mm deep, the central hole is 5.5mm diameter. It weighs 24.88g

A lead alloy spindle whorl. The form is biconical. On both sides the pattern is of radial lines with dots in groups of three or four between. The central hole is blocked, with soil or possibly the remains of the spindle. It is still covered with soil and the object patina cannot therefore be determined. It is of Walton-Rogers form C and may date to AD 1100-1600, although the smaller diameter central hole would suggest an earlier date Dimensions: 29mm diameter, 12mm deep, central hole is 7mm diameter. A cast lead spindle whorl, of probable Early Medieval date, about AD 500 - 1000, of Walton Rogers form A1. The whorl has one flat face and one convex face. The spindle whorl appears undecorated. The area around the centre of the perforation on the flat face is slightly recessed. The central perforation is sub-circular and different sizes at each end, 8.9mm to 10.5mm. The diameter is 30.3mm, the width is 12.8mm and the weight is 78.8.

A cast lead spindle whorl probably dating from the early medieval period, about AD 500 - 850. It is Walton Rogers form A1, having one flat face and one domed face. The tapering sides are not symmetrical and the aperture is not central, but htis could be the result of wear or damage. The central aperture is 7mm diameter. The diameter is 17.9mm diameter, 8.4mm thick and the weight is 11.13g. Form A1 whorls are thought to date from AD 500 - 1000, but the size of the hole makes an Early or Middle Saxon date more likely.

A cast lead alloy spindle whorl, of probable Early Medieval date. Though worn and distorted, it is broadly conical in shape and has a circular, central perforation with a diameter of 10.4mm. There are traces of a pattern in relief on the convex face. The base is slightly hollow. The whorl has a white patina. This shape can be classified as Coppergate type A1 which was used from the 6th century onwards. The size of the central perforation is also consistent with a later Early Medieval date (Walton Rogers, Cloth and Clothing in Early Anglo-Saxon England, page 24). It is 28.6mm diameter,…

A cast lead alloy spindle whorl of possible Early Medieval date, about AD 500 - 600. It is conical and has a central, circular hole of 6mm diameter. It is 19.7mm in diameter and 10.4mm high. It weighs 17.6gm. The lead has a creamy white patina. Similar whorls are discussed in Walton Rogers (2007). She suggests that this shape and central holes of a diametre of 6-9mm are more likely to be 6th century in date. However, neither feature is a reliable dating technique, so a later date is also possible.
