A lead alloy spindle whorl of biconical. It is decorated with lines and pellets on one side. It is assumed the pattern would be the same on the other side. The internal diameter of the whorl is 9mm. The object has a rough mid-white patina on one side and a light brown patina on the other.
Spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the medieval period c.1100-1500.

The object has been decorated on each face with moulded lines forming possible heart shapes. The decoration is worn and the object has a light brownish grey patina.

A medieval Spindle Whorl from approximately 1300-1400, decorated with linear zigzags creating triangular enclosures, each filled with a pellet. The presence of powdery corrosion on the outer surface indicates lead as the main composition material.

It has a large central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 9.5mm. The upper face is decorated with raised moulded lines forming a worn six pointed star. The star is made up of moulded lines forming overlapping hexagons. Between and within each point of the star is a single pellet. The opposite face of the object is flat and undecorated. The object has a mid-grey patina and is worn.

Each face of the object is decorated with a five pointed moulded star which surrounds the perforation. Worn raised pellets decorate the edge of each face in the voids between each point of the star. The spindle whorl is in fair condition and has a light brownish-white patina.

Each face is worn with moulded lettering. One face reads (AOWɅo.OYV) while the opposite face reads (YOW.). The object has a mid-white patina and is worn. If not entirely fictional and imitative, it is possible that the letters may relate to an individual's name, or perhaps are a religious inscription.
