A complete cast lead alloy spindle whorl of early medieval to medieval date, c. AD 1000-1300, corresponding to Walton Rogers type B. The spindle whorl is annular in plan, with a central aperture c. 9.2 mm in diamter, and rectangular in section. The surfaces of the whorl are undecorated. The object has a powdery pale cream-coloured patina. Diameter: 28.49 mm, thickness: 5.23 mm and weight: 23.62 g

An Early Medieval to Medieval lead-alloy spindle whorl of Walton Rogers form B dating c. AD 700-1200. The spindle whorl is flat and discoid in shape, with short vertical sides and a central circular perforation of internal diameter 9.6 mm. Both sides appear to be decorated with pseudo-runes, these are more obvious on one side than the other.  Diameter: 29.9 mm Thickness: 4.3 mm Weight: 24.51 g

A complete early medieval to medieval lead alloy spindle whorl, dating from AD c. 500 - 1100. The spindle whorl is crudely made, roughly circular in shape, with a flat upper surface, curved sides and a rounded lower surface or small flat lower surface - Walton-Rogers (2009) Form A1/2. The circular aperture has been set off centre. Both face are undecorated. Diameter 26.7mm, Thickness 8.4mm. Diameter of aperture 9.7mm. Weight 30.27g.

A cast lead alloy spindle whorl probably of early medieval date. It is very flattened, resembling Coppergate form A, One face is more conical, the other plano-convex. Both faces have moulded decoration; the conical face has four arrow heads alternating with raised pellets. The arrow heads alternately point inwards to the centre and outwards to the rim. Early medieval lead alloy spindle whorl, 20 mm in diameter, 15mm high and weighing 14.20 grams. The object is conical in form and circular in cross section with an uneven sub-circular hole running through its centre from the apex, 6-8mm in diameter. The whorl is plain and in a poor condition. It matches Walton Rogers form A2, which is dated to C.800-1000AD.

A lead alloy spindle whorl which is probably Early Medieval or Medieval in date. It is disc shaped with a hole in the centre which goes through the entire object and has a diameter of 10mm. The whorl has two flat faces with slightly rounded sides. The whorl has a diameter of 28.5mm and is 5.3mm in height. It weighs 25.86g. Spindle whorls are notoriously difficult to date as few are found in secure contexts. However, this example can be seen to fit into Coppergate type B1 or B2, with a wide central hole. There is a shallow groove half way between the hole and the edge on the flat side. It has a diameter of 26.7mm and a height of 11.1mm. It weighs 35.52g.
