A complete clay probable spindle whorl of uncertain date. The objects is globular with a central perforation running through it. The outer surface is decorated with a series of parallel but irregular grooves which appear to be made using a hand held tool. The clay is a burnt orange colour with a small blackened patch to one side. The object is 31.3mm in diameter, 27.2mm tall and weighs 22.2g. The perforation is 6.4mm in diameter. A fragment of a ceramic possible spindle whorl of Roman date, c.AD 43 - 410. The object is formed of a semi-circular disc of possible Black Burnished ware (BB1) pottery. Approximately half of the object has been lost to worn breaks. One side of the remaining portion displays a slight raised rim, the other side has a recessed central band. A perforation is present through what would have been the middle of the object when complete. The object is 39.7mm long, 14.3mm wide, 10.7mm thick and weighs 8.2g. An incomplete ceramic bi convex decorated spindle whorl, of probably the Medieval period, dating from c. AD 1100 to AD 1450. The spindle whorl is sub circular in shape, and lentoid in section. A complete ceramic spindle whorl of probable Roman dating (AD 200 to AD 400). The spindle whorl is circular in shape with a flat cross section. The upper and lower surfaces are flat. The central hole has been set roughly centrally, and has an internal diameter of 8.0 mm. Incomplete fired clay object, probably a spindle whorl. The surface is rough with tiny micaceous inclusions and light brown in colour. It was probably bi-conical in shape and consisting of two hemispherical surfaces, one of which is now mostly missing and shows signs of blackening, ?sooting. It stands incomplete at 21mm. Its diameter at the widest part is 29mm. The diameter of the central piercing is 4mm from outside through to the break. It weighs 13.57g. Possibly any date from Roman through to medieval.

An Iron Age clay spindle whorl dating to the period 800 BC- AD 43. The spindle whorl is of unusual design and is reel shaped with two sub-circular discs at either end which gradually narrow to a 'waist' in the centre. There is a vertical hole pierced through the centre of both discs. Roman to Medieval (1st to 15th centuries) spindle whorl: A stone or ceramic spindle whorl which is sub-circular in plan and in profile is D-sectioned with the base being flat. There is a central sub-circular perforation which is 8.13mm diameter. The surface is a light cream colour with some pitting and voids. It measures 29.18mm diameter and is 17.87mm thick. It weighs 16.26g. Spindle whorls, as an artefact type, can be hard to date accurately as they remained in use for a long period of time.

A Roman spindle whorl possibly made from a base sherd of a grey ware vessel or from polished stone. The diameter of the spindle whorl is 36.57mm, the diameter of the hole is 7.79mm and the thickness is 5.49mm. A flat, circular ceramic handmade spindle whorl, made from sand tempered clay. The spindle whorl has a circular perforation through the centre. The spindle whorl is 37.9mm in diameter and is 12mm thick. The clay is a mid orangey-brown colour. The artefact is complete, but slightly worn. The edges of the spindle whorl are well rounded. This artefact is undatable, but it could possibly be Romano-British or medieval.

A ceramic spindle whorl fashioned from a re-used Roman pottery sherd. The pottery fabric is coarse and sandy and reminiscent of South East Dorset Black Burnished Ware. One surface is oxidised orange and the other reduced dark grey-black in colour. The reduced surface is burnished. It has been roughly shaped into an approximate circle measuring 25.17mm diameter, 6.96mm thick and weighing 5.52g. It has been pierced with a hole of 5.39mm diameter in the centre.
