A spindle whorl carved from a large animal bone. The object has a wide flattened based and tapers towards the flat top, giving it a conical shape. It has a hole drilled through the centre. The upper surface is rounded and has four lines scratched into it around the central hole, together forming a cross pattern. The bone is a light writish-yellow colour, smoothed with use and age. The whorl is possibly Roman in date, but is more likely to be Early-medieval in date.

A perforated circular object, possibly a spindle whorl. The object is fashioned from bone and measures 33 mm in diameter. The central perforation is 17 mm in diameter. The exterior of the object is polished and decorated with three incised lines which run around the objects diameter, creating two bands. Within the upper band are punched dots. Small bone or horn spindle whorl or weight. The whorl is sub-circular with a large circular central perforation measuring 11.2mm in diameter. The whorl is rectangular in section and the surface is polished. One face is smooth but the other has a slight groove around the circumference, possibly due to the structure of the bone rather than for decoration. The whorl measures 22.41mm in diameter, 5.08mm in thickness and weighs 3.37g.

Bone spindle whorl, circular in plan and bi-convex in profile, 33.5 mm in diameter, 12 mm thick and with a circular central perforation that is 7.5 mm in diameter. The bone has been analysed and is likely from a Red or Fallow deer (see below). The smooth upper surface is decorated with a slightly off-centre, sub-circular incised ring around the central perforation which varies between 16 mm and 18 mm in diameter. An incomplete bone spindle whorl, dating to the early medieval period c.AD 600-800. The spindle whorl is a Walton-Rogers A1 type, 49.30 mm in diameter, 20.95 mm thick and with a circular central perforation that is 7.71 mm in diameter and weighs 22.57g. A bone spindle whorl. A domed spindle whorl with a central drilled hole (diameter 100 mm). The spindle whorl has been made from a femural or humeral head (the ball joint of an upper limb bone) from an animal. The dome shape is the natural shape of the bone. The base is flat. It is in complete condition, with a few small nicks here and there but not much sign of wear. The diameter of the spindle whorl is 37mm, and it weighs 12.19g. Bone spindle whorls are found on Roman, Early Medieval, and medieval sites, and therefore dating this particular item is difficult.

Roman lathe-turned bone spindle whorl, plano-convex with three concentric grooves on the upper, convex face and one groove along with a rib surrounding the central hole on the base. There is very slight ancient surface damage in two places and a tiny modern chip in one. Diameter 34mm. thickness 16.6mm, hole diameter 9 - 10mm, weight 15.98g. Mid 1st - 4th century.

cattle bone spindle whorl, hemispherical with flat bottom and central drilled hole (diameter 10.5mm). Much of one side has been damaged. This type on spindle whorl is common on Medieval sites although similar examples are found on Roman sites also.
