An incomplete stone flat or discoidal spindle whorl, of Roman to Post Medieval dating (AD 43 - AD 1650). Around 50% of the spindle whorl is present.The spindle whorl is semi-circular, and rectangular in cross section. The central hole is sub circular in shape and has been drilled slightly off central, from both sides. The internal diameter of the hole measures 5.6 mm wide. Both the upper and lower faces are flat. A stone sub-circular spindle whorl (a weight used on a spindle for spinning fibres in textile manufacture) constructed from a smooth dark grey stone. The spindle whorl is not perfectly circular and the central drilled hole is not in the very centre. The spindle whorl measures 33.54 mm in diameter and 15.32 mm thick. Its central hole is 10.1 mm in diameter. It weighs 27.4 grams. Dating spindle whorls is notoriously difficult in the absence of other chronological indicators. This example may date from as early as the Roman period (perhaps even earlier), although it is possibly later.

A spindle whorl made of a rusty coloured fine grained sandstone. It is discoid in shape, with one face damaged resulting in the loss of the original surface on that side. It weighs 52.1 grams, with a diameter of 42.76mm. The central perforation is 9.93mm wide. It is 23.00mm thick.
