An incomplete lead spindle whorl. It is disc-shaped/plano-convex with slightly convex faces, rounded edges and wide a central circular hole - diameter c.12mm. One face is decorated with a ring of narrow, raised saltire crosses and the other with a ring of raised widely spaced diagonal, parallel lines. A complete Roman to post-medieval lead spindle whorl. It has a flat base and convex upper surface. There is a central circular hole, 8.89mm in diameter. There scratches, marks and a raised pellet on the curved upper surface, although these do not appear to form a distinct pattern. The metal survives in good condition. Undecorated spindle whorls were in use from the Roman to post-medieval period. The small diameter of the hole may indicate a date towards the earlier of this chronology. It is formed from two flattened, truncated cones, joined at the base with a narrow circular hole (c.6mm) through the centre (Walton-Rogers Type B3). The surface is worn, whitish grey in colour and pitted in places.
