An incomplete lead spindle whorl. It is disc-shaped/plano-convex with slightly convex faces, rounded edges and wide a central circular hole - diameter c.12mm. A complete, lead-alloy spindle whorl or weight dating to circa AD 43-1600. It is circular in plan and rectangular in section. In the centre is a circular perforation 7.8mm in diameter. One edge is signifcantly damaged. The top edges are flat and straight.  Spindle whorls can be hard to date accurately as they remained in use for a long period of time. However, however lead alloy spindle whorls of this type are normally attributed to the Medieval period (c. AD 1100 to AD1450).
