Lead spindle whorl or washer of probable Medieval to Modern date (c. AD 1050-1800). The object is disc-shaped with a slightly off-centre subsquare perforation.  The faces are plain .One face is slightly convex.The surface patina is light grey in colour. Comparable examples recorded on the PAS database include: WAW-5A5764, SWYOR-3A92D7, SWYOR-76BCA9 and BM-C5DF5D.  The object was found with item LIN-6F3C0F . Lead spindle whorl. The whorl is probably a miscast item. The whorl has a very distorted biconical shape to it, and is decorated on one side with a non-standard pattern of lines and pellets; visible are four radiating lines, then a space, then two lines, a pellet, and then four radiating lines. Around approximately 50% of the edge of the whorl there is casting waste, which usually gets trimmed off the surface. The central hole is a distorted oval and the other face of the whorl is completely undecorated and pitted.

Probable Roman ceramic spindle whorl. The spindle whorl is roughly circular and is made out of a body sherd from a greyware vessel. There is a centrally drilled hole 6.67mm in diameter. The hole has been drilled from the reverse.

The whorl is roughly plano-convex however it is badly distorted and appears to retain some rough casting which would have been expected to be removed indicating that this is a mis-cast item; in particular there is a broken shank extending from the side of the whorl which appears to be part of the casting channel.
