A complete sub-circular cast lead object, possibly a spindle whorl. The whorl is slightly convex in form making it trapezoidal (with rounded corners) in cross-section with a flat base and flattish top. It is basic and has suffered corrosion. It is seemingly undecorated. The artefact has a spindle hole with a diameter of 10.2mm. The spindle whorl is 8.5mm in thickness and weighs 23.975g.
It has been pointed out that the weight of a spindle whorl is suggestive of the thickness of yarn produced, with lighter spindle whorls (3 - 5 grams) being used for spinning cotton and the heavier…

An undatable (but probably medieval to post-medieval) lead spindle whorl or weight, hemi-spherical in shape with a central piercing. The piercing is narrower on the flat underside (7.87mm) and wider on the convex upper face (8.14mm). The surface is in a bad state of preservation and any decoration is now lost. The underside has a shallow groove encircling it.
Measures 21.81mm in diameter, stands 9.17mm in height and weighs 20.29g.

An undatable (but probably Medieval to Post-Medieval) lead spindle whorl or weight, hemi-spherical in shape with a central piercing. It is larger on the flat underside (10.26mm) and smaller on the convex upper face (9.39mm). Much of the surface is actively flaking away and any decoration is now lost.

A worn and corroded, broadly circular cast lead object, possibly a spindle whorl or other weight. The whorl is flat on both surfaces with a rectangular cross-section. It is basic and has suffered corrosion and bending and is 'decorated' with crude angular punch marks all over both surface. The artefact has a large central hole with a diameter of c. 8.8mm. The hole has a ridge around it on both surfaces presumably a product of its creation. The object is c. 4.5mm thick and weighs 21.98g.

A corroded cast lead spindle whorl or weight of uncertain date. The artefact is circular in plan and has a diameter of 26.1mm and is 7.4mm high. A circular perforation with a diameter of 6.8mm is present at the approximate centre of the artefact. The object is broadly plano convex, with a flat lower surface. The upper has a bevelled edge and a conical centre, forming a ridge or raised ring, that rises from a flatter zone between it and the circumference. The artefact weighs 21.33g.

A worn and corroded, broadly circular cast lead object, possibly a spindle whorl or other weight. The whorl is plano-convex, with a trapezoidal cross-section. A circular cast lead-alloy artefact, probably a spindle whorl. The whorl has a flat biconical section, with each cone truncated by the central perforation for attachment. The whorl is 29.75mm in diameter at its centre, 12.05mm thick, and the circular perforation for attaching to the spindle is 9.5mm in diameter, tapering slightly to 8.2mm. The upper face of the whorl is decorated with irregular tapering double ribs which radiate out. Within each pair of ribs there tends to be a pellet; there is a further pellet in the field between two of the pairs of ribs. On the lower face the decora…

A corroded circular cast lead object, probably a spindle whorl of medieval date. The whorl is has heavily moulded decoration: triangles on each half creating lozenges joined by a central casting seam. The artefact has a central spindle hole with a regular diameter of c. 8.55mm, although a strike has encroached upon the hole on one face. The object has corroded to a largely off-white colour.

A broken half of a Roman pottery spindle whorl or counter. It has a coarse, sandy fabric and a generally dark grey colour. It features incised concentric decoration - a median circle, a circle around the central hole (Dia.: c. 8.15mm), and a possible further circle towards the circumference. The artefact was reworked into its current fuction from a ceramic vessel. There is a circular indentation on the upper surface towards the break.
