A complete cast lead spindle whorl of Iron Age to Medieval date (c. 800 BC - 1600 AD).
Description: The object is conical with a central hole. It is undecorated. The suface is mostly cream white in colour, with some grey patches.
Measurements: height 9.1mm; diameter 26.5mm; hole diameter 7.7mm; weight 32.37g.
Discussion: The internal diameter is not determinative of date

A complete cast lead probable spindle whorl, of probable early medieval date (c.700-850).
Description: The object is cylindrical with a flat underside, with some overspill, and slightly rounded sides and flat top. It has an off-centre circular perforation with a diameter of 6mm. The top has some visible decoration in the form of curved grooves running from the centre outwards.

A complete lead-alloy spindle whorl of medieval to post-medieval date, c.AD 1200 - 1800. The spindle whorl is bi-conical with a central perforation running through it. Both surfaces are decorated with a 'starburst' pattern of triangular lines radiating from the central perforation. Seven raised pellets are also present on each face.
The metal has a light brown-white patina and is worn.

A Medieval lead alloy spindle whorl, dating AD1200-1500. The object is plano-convex with a central circular perforation, probably for suspension. There is a radiating design on the domed side, consisting of a series of lines running around the edge of the perforation and extending to the base of the object. It has a mid-light grey patina.
Some similar examples have been recorded on the PAS database, cf. LANCUM-1B7F98. All tend to date from the 13th-15th century.

A complete lead spindle whorl of uncertain date, although probably dating to the Medieval or Post Medieval periods. The whorl is broadly circular in plan with an irregular, central circular hole. There are traces of decoration on the upper surface, now very worn and difficult to discern.
It measures 4.8mm in thickness, 18.1mm in diameter and weighs 6.99g.
