A complete lead spindle whorl from the Medieval period (AD1200-1500). The whorl is made up of a central bi-conical body with hole measuring 10.7mm. It is decorated on both faces with a series of raised lines, which form triangular shapes and pellets. The object has a grey patina, and the decoration is heavily worn. Lead spindle whorls were uncommon before the medieval period and the relatively large diameter of the central perforation places this in the mid to later medieval period. A complete lead spindle whorl of Early Medieval to medieval date, c.AD 800 - 1100. Walton Rogers Form A1. The spindle whorl is plano-convex with a central perforation running through it. One surface is flattened, the other domed and features no decoration. The spindle whorl has a cream patina and is worn.
