An incomplete lead spindle whorl. It is disc-shaped/plano-convex with slightly convex faces, rounded edges and wide a central circular hole - diameter c.12mm. One face is decorated with a ring of narrow, raised saltire crosses and the other with a ring of raised widely spaced diagonal, parallel lines. An early Medieval lead spindle whorl of Walton Rogers form A1 dating from AD 850-1000. It has a flat base with a domed and slightly flattened apex and a central hole of 9.3mm in diameter. The object is 27.0mm in diameter, 13.2mm thick, and weighs 45.79g. The whorl has a mid-grey patina.  A similar example is SWYOR-057095. Form A1 whorls are known from AD 500 - 1000, but the size of the central hole (over 9mm) makes a late Saxon date more likely.
