Likely to be a cast lead spindle whorl of uncertain date. It is slightly conical in form and sub-circular in plan. There is a significant circular hole at its centre. The base is smooth but the upper surface is pocked. The precise function is uncertain as it could conceivably be a weight or line sinker. Similarly, there is little diagnostic with which to date it meaning that it could date from the Roman period onwards. Similar, although cruder and undecorated, to SF-EFBE42. A lead spindle whorl which could be Roman or later in date as they do not change in form through time. This example is cone-shaped with a central circular hole, it measures 18.7mm in height and 27.4mm in base diameter. The central hole is 5.9mm in diameter at the base and 4.5mm in diameter at the tapering terminal. The outer face of the spindle whorl is rough and there are several small rectangular indentations which form a transverse row, these may be intentional decoration although due to wear it is difficult to be sure.

A worn and incomplete lead spindle whorl which could be Roman or later in date. It is a flattened cone in shape with a part of the flat base missing due to an old break, it has a circular central hole. It is c23mm in diameter and 8.9mm in thickness and the central hole is 7mm in diameter. All faces are irregular and have grooves and incisions across them, these appear to be random and it is impossible to know if they are intentional or created by damage or use.

Perforated lead spindle whorl, circular with central perforation, diameter 13mm. The outer diameter of the whorl is 30.15mm. There is a single notch or groove on the surface from the outer edge toward the central perforation. The whorl weighs 66.82g. The date range is wide because the form of these spindle whorls does not change over time.

Circular lead weight, flat beneath and domed above, with central hole. The outer diameter is 30mm, the central hole 8mm, and the height at centre is 8.5mm. It may be a spindle-whorl, in which case it might be early mediaeval, but it might also be a weight (e.g. fishing or similar) and if so it could be a good deal later.

A complete lead conical spindle whorl, circular in plan, measuring 26.6mm in diameter and 8.7mm in thickness, at its thickest point. There is a central circular perforation through this spindle whorl, 7.6mm in diameter. The sides of the upper face of the spindle whorl are decorated with evenly spaced vertical raised straight mouldings, of which there are seven. The dating of lead spindle whorls is difficult if they do not come from a sealed context, therefore, this example could date from the Roman to the end of the medieval period.

A fragment of a stone probable spindle whorl, circular in shape and measuring c33mm in diameter and 8.9mm thick. The stone is mid grey in colour. The complete face is smooth and flat and the other face is missing due to an old break. The surviving sides do not seem to be tapering so it is likely that this possible spindle whorl was flat rather than conical in shape. There is a central circular perforation, 7.6mm in diameter. This spindle whorl is perhaps most likely to be early medieval or medieval in date due to the site where it was discovered and the fact that other finds of a …
