A complete cast lead or lead-alloy spindle whorl of probable medieval date (c.AD 1200-1500). Description: The object is circular in plan and biconical in profile with curved faces and a large central perforation. The central hole has a larger diameter at one end than the other. The edges of the hole are ragged and worn. Both faces are undecorated with a raised join where the two halves meet. The object has a mid-grey patina. Medieval cast lead alloy spindle whorl. The whorl is circular in plan, with an irregular circular perforation at the centre. It has a sub-triangular cross section. Both the upper and lower surface have moulded decoration. One face has a zig-zag design, with pellets in the gaps. The other face has five double arches, with two pellets in each towards the central perforation. It has a diameter of 30.59mm, the perforation has a diameter of 9.95mm. It is 9.98mm thick 10.01mm wide and weighs 44.88 grams. The surface is slightly worn and there is some damage.

Worn, lead spindle whorl. The spindle whorl is circular in plan and oval in section. It has a central circular perforation through its length. The object has been cast with a series of crude raised dots around the circumference of one surface and presumably the opposite surface, though this is worn beyond recognition. The lead has a chalky white appearance. The spindle whorl is 27.68mm in diameter, 13.02mm thick and weighs 58.95g.
