Decorated spindle-whorl made from chalk, probably of middle or late early-medieval date. The base is approximately circular and 31mm in diameter; it is decorated with a crudely made groove around the central perforation. The angle between base and sides is rounded, and the steeply sloping sides are also slightly convex. They are decorated with a series of irregular grooves, mainly roughly vertical but also some more oblique and some slightly curved. These grooves do not quite reach the base. Where the top survives, they do not seem to reach this either, but most of the top is now miss…

Late Saxon fine-grained stone spindle-whorl, pale grey with ferrous staining, globular with flattened poles, probably lathe-turned. A small flake was lost in antiquity from the side. Cf. examples from Thetford (Dallas 1993, 121, fig. 132, nos. 4 and 5). Diameter 30.7mm, thickness or height 21.8mm, hole diameter 11mm decreasing slightly to the centre, weight 25.5g, mid 9th - 11th century.

Middle Saxon/Late Saxon stone spindle whorl, fine-grained pale-grey limestone plano-convex with central perforation within three engraved concentric grooves on the upper surface and two on the base. Diameter 35mm, weight 26.01g. Cf. Late Saxon example from Thetford (Rogerson and Dallas 1984, fig.148, no.4) and broadly similar but more deeply grooved Middle Saxon example from grave 28 at Harford Farm (Penn 2000, 29 and fig.94, no.4 and plate VI).

Late Saxon stone spindle-whorl, fine-grained pale-grey limestone, flattened sphere with central perforation and incised decoration comprising three simple crosses each within bordering line and then one cross above another evenly spaced around median band, with four cross-hatched triangles around perforation on one side and rather more random oblique radiating lines around the other side of perforation, height 21mm, diameter 29mm, weighs 23.19g.
