Lead spindle whorl, as kindly identified by the finder. Cast biconical whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 10mm. Moulded decoration on one side comprises thirteen or fourteen rays, some converging with their neighbours to form the points of an irregular and incomplete star, and with [usually] a single pellet in each of the compartments so defined. The other side appears to bear fewer lines and pellets in pairs. A moulded circumferential rib marks the meeting of the two halves. Crushed on one side with consequent local distortion. Patinated. A complete lead / lead alloy spindle whorl probably dating to the medieval period (c.AD 1200-1500). The object has a shallow biconical shape with a large central perforation measuring 8.8mm in diameter. Both faces present a raised decoration that consists of a seven-petalled flower with a pellet in each petal. The object has a dark cream patina with soil remaining within the raised lines. A Medieval to Post Medieval miss-cast lead spindle whorl dating from about AD 1450 - 1550. It is of Walton Rogers form C2. It is biconical with a design of raised pellets on one face. The whorl is miss-cast with much of one face missing. The other face has faint crossed raised lines on it, and a large lump of lead projecting from the face. The whorl is 30.2mm diameter, 16.2mm thick and 39.1g. The central hole is 8.3mm diameter. Walton Rogers dates form C2 whorls from 1100 onwards. Lead spindle whorl. Cast thin flat-sided discoid whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 10.4mm, Walton Rogers form B. A moulded design comprises a star of ten points formed by the overlaying of separate sub-rectangular shapes. Each point of the star contains a single small pellet and a further ring of small pellets is set centrally around the hole. The decoration appears on one side only.
