A complete lead spindle whorl of post-medieval to modern date (1500-1950). Walton Rodgers form B. The object is circular in plan, with a hole running through its middle. In section, the spindle whorl is rectangular. Both faces are undecorated but heavily worn. Both faces are flat and undecorated, and the object has developed a cream patina. Dimensions: Diameter 23.0mm, Thickness 10.7mm, Weight 26.55g

An incomplete cast lead spindle whorl of probably post medieval date (c.AD 1500-1700). The object is worn and broken. It is roughly circular in shape and is flat, there is a central perforation with the internal diameter of 9mm. The faces are undecorated and it is likely the object was once part of a large spindle whorl.

Complete cast lead spindle whorl of probable post medieval date (c.AD1200-1700). The object is circular with two flat, undecorated faces. The outer edge is also flattened, creating an oval cross section. The perforation has an internal diameter of 6.5mm. Spindle whorls can be difficult to date as they were in use from the Roman period onwards and they change little in form or decoration.

Complete cast decorated lead spindle whorl of probable post medieval date (c.AD1200-1700). The object is plano-convex with a central perforation. One face is decorated with raised lip that circluated around the perforation, from this lip radiates a triangular pattern. The opposite face is flate and is well worn, a plain bands circulates the perforation from which radiates a motif of raised lines. The perforation has an internal diameter of 8.5mm. An incomplete cast decorated lead spindle whorl of probable post medieval date (c.AD1200-1700). The object has a bi-concial shape with a central perforation. Both faces are decorated with a sun burst pattern. One face has evenly spaced thick lines radiating from the centre the ends of which are surrounded by a raised lip. The other side has a raised lip circulating the perforation, from which radiates evenly spaced thinner lines, and a greater number than the opposite face. A complete cast lead spindle whorl, probably late medieval to early post medieval in date (c AD 1300-1700). It is bi-conical, with a circular central perforation measuring 9.94mm in diameter. The upper face is domed and is decorated with a series of 10 raised pellets. The lower face is flat and undecorated. The object if very damaged to one side. The object is worn and has a dark grey patina. Similar examples of spindle whorls have been found in contexts from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period. However most are typically dated to the Medieval period.
