Lead spindle whorl. Cast plano-convex whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 10mm, Walton Rogers form A1. The metal is burred partly across the hole on the convex side. Patinated. Shrinkage lines on the flat upper surface may suggest the object was cast in an open mould. The hole would be apt to receive a spindle of Viking or Anglo-Scandinavian size. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 850-1000

Lead probable spindle whorl. Cast discoid whorl, originally of flat cylindrical form, with a central moulded aperture of diameter 11.4mm, cf. Walton Rogers form B. The object now has at least two flat facets on its edge, though has been patinated since this alteration. Shrinkage lines around the hole on one side may suggest casting in an open mould. For a spindle whorl, the large hole might indicate use with an Anglo-Scandinavian spindle, though use as or conversion to a line weight remains possible. Suggested date: Possibly Early Medieval, 1000-1100
